Incredibly busy week, though I did reread a cnovel by accident. I thought I haven't read it but I have. I don't know if I finished it though so I've been skimming in hopes of finding an unfamiliar place in the text. It's 美貌国师在线救世 (Pretty State Preceptor Saves the Planet).

In other news, my friend has found me a novel that mashes together space pirates with military, Omegaverse, and entertainment industry. I'll see how motivated I am to struggle through it (maybe throw it on a text to voice thing ahaha)

I don't have a lot of brain cells lately, so I'm rereading Devil Venerable. I wish I trusted Hai Tang to do a good job with it.

I knooow, Devil Venerable so deserves a good published edition and I do not think it will get it. I'm already disappointed with the design stuff they've released so far, the cover illustration is nice but not really representative of what the series is about and some of the typography was really ... okay ...

I'm on chapter 23 of 重生之豁然 (Epiphanies of Rebirth) and I've been really enjoying it, the two male leads just met and it went so wrong in a spectacular way. 😂

I've read a couple showbiz novels by the same author, 缘何故 (Yuan He Gu), and I quite enjoyed them. Maybe I'll add this one to my to-be-read list.

Currently reading the first volume of Peerless, and I'm having a lot of fun. No deep thoughts yet, but I do always seem to like Meng Xi Shi's work

I just started "Record of the Missing Sect Master" and it's fun so far. MC has amnesia but it has not stopped him from being a troll. One interesting thing: MC doesn't remember his name, but the narration still uses it! Which of course gives the reader a ton more information than the character has. Idk, I feel like it's one of those things that might not fly in western tradpub novels, but it's working here so far.

Also, I somehow thought this was going to be xianxia (don't know why). It's not, it's wuxia.

I've been rereading The Langya List and crying awfully over it 😆 Canon review for the annual fandom exchange (mini version this time). The holidays have been great... except for the work I should have been doing haunting me as I edit my gift xD

Not much time for reading other things. But I hope there will be some time after Saturday!

Not really reading right now, but I came across a danmei novel that has close to 100 extra chapters. To be fair, some of those extra chapters are what-ifs, and the others are the two MCs taking part in a reality show. Still, I'm not sure I would have the patience to read all the extras unless I really love the main couple or the main story leaves too many loose ends.

(Ending the main story on loose end was my only minor gripe with Thousand Autumns. I'm not sure why the main story ended where it was when the extra chapter began immediately from where the main story left off. It could have been incorporated into the main story, I think?)

I read Rose and Renaissance (Wo Zhi Xihuan Ni De Renshe) by Zhichu and it's got 21 extras (a quarter of the total length) and I thought THAT was too many.

I've seen a quick transmigration novel with over 200 extra chapters, but that's probably not the norm.

I suppose so. Some authors are quite fond of writing what-ifs or alternate universe as extras. Maybe to scratch that writer's itch or as fanservice. I know there are writers who would ask the readers what kind of extra stories they would like to see.

one of my favorite writers did a Yuletide story in her own tradpub universe--she said it was fanfic because her coauthor wasn't involved, but in my heart it's canon.
