Hi all,

I'd love to get some stuff going in August, so I'd like to ask you all if anyone wants to help out with this!

Author's Spotlight

What: A post, or collection of posts (depending on your energy/time) on one specific author and their works. Ideally it will include links to the works, available translations if any, some thoughts of your thoughts on some of their works. Feel free to include your favourite fanworks too or other reviews!
When: An author every month

Please reply to claim an author and month!

List of authors and months (will be updated as we go):

August: [personal profile] geraineon (Jiang Zi Bei)
September: [personal profile] momijizukamori (priest) + requesting for help
October: [personal profile] geraineon (Musuli) [note: if you want to do this, let me know!] We will have a themed novel spotlight instead! (thanks [personal profile] hazevi)
November:
December: [personal profile] douqi (Ning Yuan)
January: [personal profile] hazevi (Yi Zhan Ye Deng)

Themed weeks

What: During the themed weeks, recommend anything related to the theme or create fanworks/request for fanworks related to the theme (e.g., Thousand Autumns, but make it e-sports). Or discuss them however! (We can even do read-alongs, I think?).
When: Every month, for two weeks (tentatively, testing it out the week of August 4th)

This is what I'm having more trouble trying to think about what to do and duration. I have a list of suggested themes and genres compiled through past posts (thank you!). I suppose we can try it first? Any and all comments/suggestions appreciated on how to do this! (if you have examples from other communities/other spaces, that'd be great!)

List of suggested themes/genres

Sci-Fi
Detective stories
Esports/Entertainment industry
Female Protagonists
Quick Transmigration
Infinite Flow/Unlimited Flow
Modern Day
Xianxia
Wuxia
No Romance
Short stories/Novellas
Short Novels (max of 50 chapters)
Really Long Novels (500+ chapters)

So it's been a month since the comm opened. I appreciate all of you for your participation in this community! Just want to check-in with you on a few things:

1) I keep forgetting to post the weekly Q&A catch-all post for any other questions. Do you think this is a useful weekly post? There's already three a week right now (though I can always double it up with the discussion post I guess!)

2) Are there things you'd like to see more of?

I am trying to plan out the author spotlight/themed weeks, so look forward to a survey or a post soon (in a week-ish) for it recruiting for help!

Other than that though, are the content and interactions in this community what you had hoped for?

3) Feel free to bring up any other thing!

It's been a fun few days since the opening!

Here's a summary of what I gathered from the introduction posts, regarding what people would like to see/do in the community:

  • Recommendations for books
  • More discussions about cnovels

What I'll do is open a weekly rec request post, and a weekly discussion post.

The schedule in mind:
CNovel rec request: Monday
Current read-in-progress: Wednesday
Q & A (see below): Wednesday
Discussion: Friday

The Q & A post is meant to be a catch all for any and all other questions (e.g., which translation is smoother?, what is this sentence in Chinese?, anyone willing to beta read?, etc.)

But this doesn't mean you cannot start a discussion post, or ask for recs outside of these posts!

Please submit topics for discussion posts here.

Comments are screened in case anyone feels uncomfortable suggesting publicly.

Note: Schedule to be adjusted as we trial things!

Hi and welcome to this community! I created this space so there's a place for c-novel talk but I really haven't thought too much beyond that, so hope you don't mind this is a work in progress (you might notice that the community icon is a MSPaint icon, because I could not decide on an icon and I was encouraged by friends to do Art).

I don't know how the size of this community is going to be, so for now, all you have is me, the admin of the comm. Some context relevant to the focus of this comm: I can't read Chinese, so I read all my novels through translation, though I am a little less hopeless with audio dramas.

My plan is to have a weekly "what are you reading" post, and maybe a weekly catch all Q & A post (for all rec requests and other things), but if there are other things you want to suggest (e.g., other types of recurring posts, missing tag groups, etc.), let me know here!

(edited: also, check out the intro post sticky, or make an intro post if you feel comfy!)

This is a community dedicated to Chinese novels and media related to these novels (e.g., audio dramas, audio books, donghua adaptations, etc.). Most of the focus will be on Chinese webnovels, but if you'd like to discuss, e.g., a Chinese SFF novel, please feel free!

Requests, news, discussions, meta, reviews, recommendations, thoughts, questions all welcome. Fanworks, your fantranslations, relevant events, all great too~

It's likely things will evolve as time passes, as the community gets more of a feel of what people wants to see, or if there's specific things that needs to be changed, so I will update this post as we go too.

Rules and guidelines for posting and commenting:
