I’m back to bounding through Er Gen’s xianxia power-fantasy A Will Eternal (一念永恒), and the MC is still a frustrating brat (cowardly, vain, capable of focusing on cultivation only in service of his goal of living forever) who is nonetheless loyal to those he considers his own. There are, as sometimes *cough* happens in c-novels, some queasy episodes — the MC is awful as a corrupt official and even worse as a corrupt prison guard — but these are mercifully brief as the adventure plot moves briskly, and when the focus is the MC effing up all the bystanders half by accident, it’s quite entertaining. I’m up to chapter 718, or 58% through (it’s 4½ Journeys West long).

(If an actual romance subplot ever shows up, I may bail, though — with these elements and the author’s typical manner, the cringe could get dire.)
