Time for free for all Friday, a day for random chit-chat!

Do you want to talk about the other novels you are reading or find a read-along partner? Practice your Chinese? Request for fics? Ask for beta readers? Just talk about your day?

Go right ahead!

aurumcalendula: detail from the cover art for Dragon Subjugation Incantation. (Dragon Subjugation Incantation)

I haven't decided what I think of The White Haired [Bride/Witch/Demoness] yet (I'm about four chapters into it), but I'm glad Lian Nichang seems to be showing up more. I haven't seen any of the adaptations yet, so I wasn't expecting some of the court politics stuff.

I'm really enjoying the baihe translations I've been following (Dragon Subjugation Incantation, To Embers We Return and Seeking Immortality in Vain are my favorites at the moment)! I'm so fond of Seeking Immortality in Vain in particular (although, considering it's still serializing, I'm a bit apprehensive of what kind of ending it will have).

I'm frustrated but unsurprised by the ongoing Monogatari situation. I was looking forward to having more official English baihe translations in print form. I'm really hoping The Beauty's Blade gets released on time (and sells well for Seven Seas).

The release date for volumes 1 of Female General and Eldest Princess and Clear and Muddy Loss of Love's English translations have been pushed back for a third time - this time to November. It sounds like the FGEP preorders made via their website have shipped out (albeit with different cover art than shown) but not ones made elsewhere (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.). It's still possible to place orders for the books at various retailers, but not on Monogatari's website.

I'm not sure if anyone is running their English social media anymore (their last post was in February). The Spanish side of things seems more together and I'm curious if the Spanish FGEP translation gets released on May 5th.

It's been so messy!

Monogatari did finally update their English social media on Monday saying:
"Due to some issues with customs as a result of the new tariffs the current release dates for our titles are undertermined. Available release dates are a placeholder date put in place in order to avoid any further delay. However, we expect them to be ready much sooner than that."
...tbh I don't get how placeholder dates are supposed to help (and considering their history, I kinda suspect the tariffs aren't the primary cause of the delay).

Going by Amazon Spain, it looks like the Spanish FGEP got pushed back until May 12th.

Practising my Chinese! I can't pronounce things any better than I could a month ago, but I can read a little more, which is very exciting.

I wrote a fic for 3K Workers! (The first fic in English, the first one on AO3 \o/ patiently waiting for the fandom tag to be canonized.) I originally wanted to write a pastiche of A New Account of Tales of the World, but gave up halfway through and settled for inspired-by metafiction. XD

I'm a chapter into Is That a Fish in Your Ear?, a book about translation, which so far looks promising food for thought.

It was Ning Yuan's birthday on 30 April so I finalised the author carrd I was working on, posted an updated version of her author profile on the DW comm, and posted a translation of one of her explicit sex scenes from The Creator's Grace.

Did this while also co-organising a multi-day work event and trying to advocate for decent workplace policies following the awful trans-hostile UK Supreme Court decision, so brain extremely fried at the moment.

Finally, yes! (and I was so shattered from it that I've spent the last few days recovering)

Having just finished a crossing-timelines mystery, and the This is How You Lose the Time War before that, I was wondering if anyone had recs for any other time travel novels (that aren't transmigration)? Something twisty-turny with paradoxes in play, that sort of thing? I have already read Mist (and that aspect of it was my favorite part).
