Wrote a post on my personal DW angsting about my (lack of) translation speed, given that I'm contemplating a new project.

Wept and shrieked my way (with a couple of chuckles at the unexpectedly funny bits) through today's chapter of To Embers We Return, which is turning into a daily activity at this point. In non-cnovel reading news, I also finished reading Harrison's translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which was v interesting language-wise.

I think you put a lot of thought and consideration in your translation, and to do that, it'll be hard to be really fast (though this is an opinion from someone who doesn't translate). Sending supportive vibes for the possible new translation project!

Re: Sir Gawain — it's a translation from Middle English alliterative verse, and the translator takes pains to preserve the alliteration. Generally it's quite subtle — you don't really notice it consciously most of the time — but the sound-pattern is very much there.

That IS very interesting! Really cool that the translator managed to preserve the alliteration, and I imagine it makes the prose very nice to read.

Has anyone requested their library order Rosmei books before, or know enough about library purchasing to be able to offer any tips on how to request them in a way that makes the process easier for the library? My library has some of the Seven Seas damnei so I'm hoping they'd be at least open to the idea.

I'm three chapters into Chu Liuxiang book 1 and wow that's a lot of corpses. I almost get the feeling that the corpses are to pad word count 😂

It's been an enjoyable three chapters though!

I have, in the past, suspected Gu Long of being paid by the line, because he writes a lot of short sentences. My (very bad) Gu Long parody:

'A saber.
A very sharp saber.
A very sharp saber, held by an very elegant pair of hands.' etc.

I'm getting closer to the end of Record of the Missing Sect Master (I'm on chapter 103 now)!

I keep poking websites to see if The Beauty's Blade is available to pre-order yet (I'm not sure how long the announcement to available for pre-order time tends to be for 7 Seas).

From the Seven Seas website, The Beauty's Blade seems to be coming out in August of 2025 so there's still quite a bit of time probably. For reference using danmei: It seems like Legends of Exorcism (Tianbao Fuyaolu) was announced in July, comes out next February, and has preorders open now. So based on my pure speculation, I'm thinking preorders may be in April 2025?

Well, some things have been happening for me (horror!)

Firstly, I've been suddenly buried in schoolwork, so now I've been very preoccupied in trying to dig myself out of that hole. It's very ironic because about a week ago I was the person who was like yeah school romances are suuuuper cool so you know...

Secondly, despite the massive amount of untouched work I have, I decided that of course this was the best week to get consumed by the editing of my translation project. It's mostly because I want to finish the main story and then absolutely YELL about my love of the extras, so... now the translation of If I Can Mail You A Book is complete up to the last main chapter. I'm also planning on posting all 3 extras in one go tomorrow so I'll probably word-dump on here later.

Fun (?) week I'd say.
