Discussion Friday

Today's topic is about translation!
This post is meant to crowdsource some ideas on what to include as tips for first time translators, or even just to spark some discussion about the translation norms in the CN novel fandom.
So, if you're a CN-EN translator (in any capacity, e.g., novel translation, song translation, fanvid subs, audio drama subs, etc.):
1. What are some interesting issues/problems you have encountered in CN to EN translation but you feel are under-discussed in fandom? Are there specific translation choices you are uncomfortable with despite (or because of) its widespread use within fandom?
2. What key advice would you give to someone who is starting out in translation?
3. What would you like to learn more about translation? What other kinds of discussions about translation would you like to see in fandom?
As for non-translators:
1. What makes a translation particularly hard to read for you?
2. Do you have examples of bits of translation (e.g., sentences, paragraphs) that left a positive impression on you?
3. Are there any kinds of discussions about translations that you enjoyed? What other kinds of discussions about translation would you like to see in fandom?
Note: This discussion is geared more towards fandom spaces, but does not preclude discussions within professional spaces so if that's your experience, please feel free to share!
