Now that I’m free of Justice in the Dark, I’ve picked uo the English translation of Goodbye My Princess that just came out and am enjoying it! A lot! It actually reads like a book and not like a translation of one, if you know what I mean? And without having seen the drama, I feel like I’m watching one when I read it, which makes for a very fun experience.

More Seeking Immortality in Vain! I like that we're getting some backstory for one of the side characters and I might have a ship for the marriage alliance princess.

Just finished The Times Spent in Pretense, which is great fun despite the feeling of having wandered into a Georgette Heyer novel dissipating about 2/3 through as the political schemes pile up. But! The female MC never once fades into the background, as happens in all too many historical romances. So strong thumbs up for that.

And bonus thumbs up by signaling that the relative emancipation of women in this kingdom is deliberate, by setting up contrasts with a more traditionally NeoConfucian kingdom next door.

And extra-bonus thumbs up for, in the final chapter, having the female MC confirm the why of all her titular pretenses. It wasn't anything that wasn't hinted, but getting it explicit was nice.

Highly recommended.

Finally attempting to read through the remaining three volumes of Remnants of Filth, which I'm continuing to enjoy despite finding it extremely silly. My copy of How to Survive as a Villain vol2 should finally be on its way in the mail and I eagerly await its arrival 🙏

How do you find it, compared to 2ha? It's the same universe, iirc? (I didn't read either, just curious)

Somewhat unpopular opinion, but I find the characters in Yuwu much more likeable than in 2ha... I can appreciate an unlikeable character when it feels deliberate but I think I'm supposed to be a lot more charmed by Ranwan's antics than I actually am (I made it through the first few volumes and might return someday but there's a lot more licensed danmei than there was a few years ago so I can afford to be pickier.) The main couple's dynamic as well as the story's focus (more military/political drama, albeit in super heightened Meatbun fashion) are also just more to my taste, which doesn't say much about how other people will respond.

Yeah, I don't enjoy Ranwan very much so I dropped 2ha after vol. 1. I do enjoy military/political drama more, so maybe I should pick up Yuwu and give meatbun another try.

Finished The Empty Ship (which was good, though my main question about the plot wasn't really answered) and am about to start what sounds like a fun xianxia (I'm so tired of grim, angsty, dog-eat-dog xianxia worlds).

I just finished Cyan Wings' Cultivating in Online Games (我在网游修仙). A cultivator is searching for fragments of his beloved's soul and somehow stumbling into an online cultivation game that seems eerily similar to his own world. I really like this novel, and Cyan Wings made the game sound fun.

I really enjoyed what I've read of that! Unfortunately the english translation seems to have stalled out around chapter 40

I'm reading Guardian for the first time, having never seen the drama (although I've osmosed things from being in adjacent fandom spaces and never really trying to avoid spoilers). I'm reading it for a book club and will be *trying* to keep that pace, but I have never been successful at reading things on a schedule before. We'll see.

I've gotten to the halfway point of #1 Pretty Boy of the Immortal Path which is still cute and funny. Highlight for spoilers!*The main couple just realized that the other one is not a girl! They were both shocked but they're adapting.*

I am really looking forward to Highlight for spoilers!*the drama and angst I was told will come in the third arc, since I'm nearing the end of the second one.*
