I'm reading this paper about Shangguan Wan'er which I've been meaning to get to for a while and it's really good! The most straight forward overview of what's going on with her that I've found in English.
I finished Salted Fish Ascension & loved it. Looking forward to the drama even more now. The translation was overall good, despite being MTL. There were some issues with consistency - I got the impression that either more than one person handled the editing, or it was one person but they did batches of chapters & took breaks in between, as sometimes sect & place names were written in pinyin for a bunch of chapters, then in English for a couple of chapters. Not as confusing as it sounds though as the plot isn't complex, only a small number of characters are relevant, & only a few big sects, & the main character's omniscience means you're given context via his pov. I'm pretty sure it took me a while to notice because it was so obvious who & what was being talked about.
Moved on to This is Ridiculous & breezed through it, finishing yesterday, just in time for the drama, which is rumoured to be airing in early February. Really enjoyed it - it's so funny & you never knew what's going to happen next. Also a MTL, but whoever edited did an amazingly good job.
Reading the official translation for Married Thrice to Salted Fish, reread since I read the fan tl before. I really enjoy the outsider point of view for the transmigration aspect.
I have been really doing everything poetry lately. Chinese poetry wise I've gotten my hands on a copy of Wang Shuizhao's compiled/annotated Selection by Su Shi [苏轼选集] and am looking forward to working through it through class and friends. To balance that I'm also reading Mary Oliver's A Poetry Handbook. I don't actually know why I'm doing this, to become a poetry witch at the end of the term? A valid goal now that I write it out.
Very interesting paper! I like the analysis that the authors did and I especially went and took a look at the translation of the entire muzhiming they did, which was very nice! Thank you for sharing!
Currently reading Wang Ya's (妄鸦) horror adjacent danmei novel Working Records in a Weird World (诡异世界打工实录). It's a lot of fun so far. It's infinite flow but not quite. The story takes place in the final stage of an infinite flow game, and the main character is one of the NPCs... probably? Wang Ya is at the top of her game again with the enemies to lovers trope.
Highlight for spoilers!*Seeing the main love interest getting his hide metaphorically handed to him by the main character at every turn is pretty hilarious.*
