My thoughts on the second chapter.
The beginning made me smile because it read like an episode of Leverage. The thief sounded too good to not appear again and behold, I was right. He is one of the Seven Martial Artists (I cannot believe the English translation calls them Freaks. In German the term Sonderlinge is used, which doesn’t have as much of a negative connotation.) Poor Bai Xiruo though.
I suspected Yan Lie to be Genghis Khan, but it seems he is a Jin prince. Anyway, someone more important than he first let on. The liberal spending was suspicious in chapter 1.
Oho, so someone is actually trying to help the two widows. Finally, if a bit late. The Seven are described so vividly, it‘s great.
After a vividly described fight scene (I am so looking forward to how this was done in the adaptations) and me chuckling a lot at the drinking contest, I am left very angry at the end of this chapter. Those fucking proud martial artists. If they had only stayed calm and talked properly, none of them would have had to die and Li Ping would have been saved.
I was so happy to have one female martial master in this chapter, but now I‘m not sure she even survives the rest of the book… Han Xiaoying, it was nice meeting you.
So what did you think of this chapter? I am going straight to chapter three because I need to find out whah happens next…
