There is a phenomena of writers in English wanting to write their own danmei and well, isn't that just books with plot, which just happen to have central gay couple? The genres don't really have a 1-to-1 translation, but that's basically it.
Yeah, but the ones I've seen at least say "inspired by danmei." This claims to be completely original, nothing to do with danmei. Except that it tries very hard to be danmei. *sigh*

...yes. I just mentally label these books as 'not for me/people like me'.

(at the risk of having stuff thrown at me, sometimes these are... Asian diaspora authors. And then I'm even more disappointed *ducks*)

Edited to add: Not all Asian diaspora authors, obvs (being an Asian diaspora kind-of author myself).
