I'm still on a trip with my friend so haven't been doing much reading but I have made progress in Tai Sui! A few chapters!

Poor san-ge catches no break from the MC

I've only been reading LOCH, and enjoying it! Chapter 5 is next, which...might be exactly where I was last time I checked in, idk.

Just started Qiang Jin Jiu and WHEW this danmei does NOT pull its punches. The first few chapters are absolutely excoriating, and it perfectly suits my bleak mood right now. I love it; what I do not love is 7S saying there will be 8 volumes so I'm not gonna get to finish it until [looks at wrist]…2030?

Currently in book 4 of Mo Du and enjoying how the stakes are rising book by book. Still think this is my favorite priest book.

How far in it are you so far?

IKR! I know the final volume probably won't be quite that far out (I'm guessing 2025 or 2026), but it feels that way.

Since last Wednesday, I've caught up with the currently translated chapters of Purely by Accident and Dragon Subjugation Incantation and continued my reread of volume 1 of Ballad of Sword and Wine.

I'm half way through chapter 4 of The Legend of the Condor Heroes, almost caught up! Then I'm going to read all the Tai Sui extras. After that I don't know what's next (besides TLotCH).

橋頭樓上 chapters 10-12

Read 3 chapters of 橋頭樓上 then got derailed by somewhat cnovel-adjacent things: the novel-based transmigration donghua How Dare You and the knovel Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint which is kind of the opposite of a transmigration novel and likely too long for me to finish. 😂

Thoughts on 橋頭樓上 10-12

The recent diary entries have been, at least, a lot less creepy, and I was so happy to see Tang Guo improve... until the ominous entries of July 10 and 11. 😭 The novel structure has also been changed now that we've reached the end of an arc, which is exciting. Groupchats and quick PoV changes! \o/

At some point (I think it was during the flashback of Tang Guo being drowned by a man and a woman), I wondered how many times Tang Guo has drowned and maybe died, and if the water ghost’s own death eighteen years ago even ties with the plot at all or that entire character really is just a narrative device.

The slew of "Sorry" comments with roses at the end of chapter 10 (webnovel chapter 6) was so unsettling and is still unaddressed.

I always feel so dumb whenever the comments talk about how childish the writing is in the earlier chapters. 😂 But it's always fun when they argue. 😂

I'm really glad we’re finally “reviewing” the text and moving on to the next bits—there was definitely a lot of "clues" I missed, ie. the more "mature" writing style in ch6(?), “媽媽讓我這麼叫她的”, and the emotional/psychological processes. I don't know where we'll go now that Tang Guo has discarded the doll she used to channel her violent impulses to, and that her attachments are so tenuous?

2026, I'd guess, given we're half-way through 2024. (How? How is it 2024 already?) Two volumes this year, maybe four next year, if all goes well, and the rest in 2026.

I’m really enjoying it! Particularly its concept of the world + the experience of learning bits of KR history as I go along. There seems to be a complicated relationship between the MC and his mom. 👀

It’s also pretty normal about other countries and myths + neutral about attractiveness? And so far very gen! But it’s also… long, so maybe I haven’t scratched the surface of the plot yet.😂😂😂 I do love all the plot developments so far! Except for the bugs—I briefly considered checking out the webtoon until I got to the cockroaches. 😂

I’m curious to see what you think about it since you’re more webnovel-savvy, and if it’s comparable to any cnovel you’ve read!

eh I mean, even if you don't get to it for the read-along, it'll still be there. I started chapter 5 yesterday but only managed like 2 paragraphs lmao. too many distractions...

Tai Sui is looong! There are 7 extras which my reader counts as 425 pages, not much by Tai Sui standards. I am glad that I like the translation so much! I keep reading good things about Mo Du, maybe I will read that next?

Tai Sui is on my TBR list but I think I'll get to it only after I'm done with the danmei book bingo.

I do like crime and detective stories but I'm most invested in Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du's relationship. It feels very mature and believable.

Late, very late, but I am excited because I went back to the gym and discovered I can read while doing cardio on the treadmill (not the stationary bike or the eliptical trainer. I tried...it's haaard) so I resumed my reading of Global Examination. I'm on chapter 18. Still very slow but I am doing it now. Somehow, doing it in the gym helps me not to get distracted with other 20 things around. I'll see how much I can read this week 👀​

Mo Du is good! But it's also an older novel compared to Tai Sui so idk if it'll be as good (still not done with Tai Sui, can't compare but the issue I normally have with priest novels is the wrapping up and Mo Du suffers a little from that). I did enjoy it a lot though!

Always love a complicated parent-child relationship! I've a friend who is reading ORV with a book club who said that I'd enjoy it lots, so I'm looking forward to it! (told this friend I'd start immediately and guess what? I got distracted).

and lol naaah, I'm not webnovel savvy at all. I think I'm probably average to lower in this comm (feels like so many other people have read so much more!)
